Mark Johnston is an award-winning astronomy educator, author, astrophotographer, and public speaker based in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is known for making astronomy approachable through engaging stories, dramatic imagery, live demonstrations, and clear explanations of complex scientific ideas.
Mark presents dozens of astronomy programs each year at schools, libraries, camps, resorts, public observing events, astronomy clubs, and corporate facilities. He has provided volunteer astronomy programs for the City of Scottsdale for more than 20 years and has received multiple city awards recognizing his service.
He is the author of the Amazon #1 New Release The Solar Observer’s Handbook, a comprehensive guide to understanding, observing, and imaging the Sun.

Presentation Style
Educational Without Feeling Like a Lecture
Mark’s presentations are designed to be scientifically accurate without becoming overly technical. Depending on the subject and audience, talks may include:
